Nepal Herbs and Herbal Products Association (NEHHPA), an umbrella organization of Nepalese herbal producers, manufacturers and traders in the Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) sector particularly covering Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs) sub-sector, was established in 2002. NEHHPA is working to build sustainable business system for the promotion of herbs and herbal sector in Nepal.
Since its establishment, NEHHPA has been working relentlessly to meet the need of their member companies in the herbs and herbal product sector in Nepal. The association is dedicated to support their member companies to promote export and import activities of herbal products through capacity building training, providing opportunities to attend national and international trade fair events for market extension, and lobbying policy hurdles that hindered members for the trade of MAP products to foreign countries.
NEHHPA is committed to increase income opportunities by providing access to new market. NEHHPA's support to their member companies are marketing and networking, and business development. For this, NEHHPA promotes the Nepali herbs and herbal sector at the national and international level coordinating with different stakeholders for marketing of products. Business development is fostered through organizing various events, expose and trade fairs to create opportunities for the development of new markets to increase sales and exports.
Association members are capacitated on business growth by providing training to remain competitive in the herbal sector and organizing seminars for strategy development and developing tools for its members and sharing up to date information. Quality assessment is done through identifying risks within the NTFP and MAP sub-sector to continuously improve the quality of products and establishing a management information system with member organization. Advocacy and lobby is important and regular function. It is done by facilitating the government's policy making in the promotion of sustainable NTFP business working in partnership with different stakeholders involved in the NTFP/MAPs sector
